Today (Sunday 11th) we welcome Bishop Julie
and our candidates for Confirmation

Please pray for David, Joe and Sylvia (read their thoughts here: Candidates

Refreshments

We really struggled to fulfil the rota over December with Rob being ill.
Some people missed parts of services to ensure tea and coffee were available. I am afraid that next time we have a problem filling the rota we may have to cancel refreshments, this would be such a shame as it’s a great way for visitors to meet people and receive a warm welcome and for all of us who come to Church. If you joined the rota it would probably involve three Sundays in three months maximum, more likely two in three months.
We would show you what to do and ease you into the rota. Please could you help? To find out more please see Fiona Austin or email her at secretary@stbarnabasbromborough.org thank you.

Brass cleaning

This will now take place at 10.00 am on Saturday 17th January, not as previously advertised. As the team are all rather short and not up to climbing, we would really appreciate the help of taller people to clean the Brass Plaques on the aisle walls. Tea/coffee & biscuits supplied!

No Baptism

There is no baptism on Sunday 18th January.
There is a new yellow sign-up sheet at the back of the church for the Ark corner. This starts next Sunday, January 18th and runs to the end of February.
Please sign up if you are willing to take a turn in the corner.  Many thanks, Gill

The Lt Sally Felix

Those congregation members who would like to attend her funeral, it will take place at Holy Cross, Woodchurch, on Wednesday January 14 at 10.15 am.  Our prayers are with David and the family.

Thank you

Many thanks to all those folk who’ve been part of the Christmas Tree Final Takedown team, in whatever capacity, and to all those involved in the big tidy up after that to get the church ready for Sunday worship and the Bishop’s visit for the Confirmation.
To ALL involved, your help, and time, is greatly appreciated, and a big thank you from Jenny and the Churchwardens team. You’ve earned your place on Santa Frank’s good list!

Some thoughts from our confirmation candidates:

David writes:
Growing up, I was brought up in a Christian household. I used to go to my parent’s methodist church every Sunday. It was something I did because I was told that I had to. I knew some of the stories of the Bible but I never understood the meanings and the teaching behind them. Growing up in my teen years I attended events such as Soul Survivor and the local church groups, and this is where I felt like I started to understand Christianity a little more but never felt a strong connection to my faith and so never felt it was the right time to be baptised. Years later I have joined St Barnabas and since joining I have felt a connection with God. I feel like now is the time to confirm my faith in him. Jesus has a path for us and I believe that he wanted me to know that he was there when I was younger but allowed me to follow him in my own time.

Sylvia Nurse says:
I have always been raised Christian. My whole life raised with the Church of England in my life. I learned a lot from my mother and was taught the stories of the bible growing up. And I have always wanted to be confirmed but thought I had left it a bit too late but now I have got the opportunity through going to church with my grandson Joe. I have visited multiple churches during my life, but I have always put my faith in the Church of England.

Joe Nurse writes:
I have always wanted to be christened my whole life. I had always said to my nan “I want to go to church I want to be christened” and eventually my mum and I came and here we are. I have the opportunity to be christened and confirmed. I have learnt a lot about Christianity from Social media and through the internet.  I believe that putting my life into Christ is the best thing I’ve done.

Barbara says:
I was baptised when I was a baby and I was confirmed so long ago I can hardly remember it. I have had a difficult few years through John’s illness and following along after his death. It has been hard and I have felt a bit all over the place with that and some other issues. I was deeply moved when Tom and Olivia were baptised just before Christmas and I felt now was an opportunity to draw a line and renew my promises. I want to look ahead and see what God has planned for me. I really treasure my church now and my commitment has grown. St Barnabas is a really important support and like a family to me.

Please keep David, Sylvia, Joe and Barbara in your prayers over the next week or so.
